We know about only two Navratris that occur in a year, Chaitra or Vasantik Navratri and Ashwin or Sharadiya Navratri. Apart from this, there are two more Navratris in which special wishes are fulfilled. Due to less people knowing about it or because it is hidden, it is called Gupt Navratri. According to the Hindu calendar, Navratri comes in 4 holy months in a year. These four months are:- Magh, Chaitra, Ashadha and Ashwin. Navratri of Chaitra month is called Badi or Basant Navratri and Navratri of Ashwin month is called Choti Navratri or Sharadiya Navratri. There is a gap of 6 months between the two. The remaining two Navratris of Ashadha and Magh months are called Gupt Navratri.

Gupt means hidden. In this Navratri, sadhana is done for the siddhi of secret knowledge. Tantra sadhanas are important in Gupt Navratri and tantra sadhana is done secretly. That is why it is called Gupt Navratri. In this, special wishes are accomplished. It is called Gupt Navratri because the sadhaks have knowledge of it or because it is hidden.

Vasant and Sharad Navratri are for householders and common people but Gupt Navratri is for saints and sadhaks. This is the Navratri of sadhana, not of celebration. That is why special kind of worship and sadhana is important in this. This Navratri is for the siddhi of tantra-mantra for a special wish. By doing special worship in Gupt Navratri, one can get rid of many types of sorrows. Aghor tantric people worship in Gupt Navratri to achieve Mahavidyas. This Navratri is also done with the desire of salvation. By doing special worship in Gupt Navratri, one can get rid of many types of sorrows.  In Pratyaksh Navratri, Navdurga is worshipped, but in Gupt Navratri, ten Mahavidyas are worshipped. In Pratyaksh Navratri, Satvik Sadhna, dance and celebration are celebrated, whereas in Gupt Navratri, Tantric Sadhna and strict fasting are important. Pratyaksh Navratri is celebrated for the fulfillment of worldly desires, whereas Gupt Navratri is celebrated for the fulfillment of spiritual desires, siddhi, moksha. It is also said that Pratyaksh Navratri is of Vaishnavs and Gupt Navratri is of Shaivites and Shaktas. The main goddess of Pratyaksh Navratri is Maa Parvati, whereas the main goddess of Gupt Navratri is Maa Kali. It is believed that Navratri coming in Ashadh and Magh is named Gupt Navratri because in this, Sadhna is done for the siddhi of Gupt Vidyas. In Gupt Navratri, Tantra Sadhnas are important, which are done secretly, hence it is called Gupt Navratri.

Why is Gupt Navratri special?

Gupt Navratri is special in many ways. There is a law to worship Maa Durga on this day. If you also have any family dispute, then you can also improve your life in this Navratri. If you want to get rid of family disputes, then definitely worship Maa Durga in this Gupt Navratri. No one likes disputes, fights, bad atmosphere in the house. If there is dispute in the house all the time, then even Lakshmi ji does not live in that house. A good atmosphere in the house is very important for the progress of the house, your progress as well as for the children. If there is a fight every day in your house, there is dispute or the atmosphere of the house is bad, then this Gupt Navratri will prove to be a prison for you. To increase happiness, prosperity and respect, light a ghee lamp in front of Maa Durga every night in Gupt Navratri and offer a garland of red flowers to the mother. Along with this, offer any silver item at the feet of the mother. By doing this, success, happiness, prosperity, joy and love increase.

Meat and alcohol should not be consumed at all during Gupt Navratri. Also keep away from onion and garlic during this time, Tamasik food creates problems in life, when you are worshipping the Mother Goddess during Gupt Navratri, you should not hurt anyone’s feelings. You should not use abusive language against anyone, take great care not to sleep during the day during Gupt Navratri, because doing so makes the Goddess angry. Also, celibacy should be followed during these days.
