Today’s world is very selfish. Here all relationships are meaningful. Except the parents, no relationship lives up to expectations. But there is no dearth of good people in this world. Even today there are many people who risk their happiness for others. But it feels very sad when the other person does not understand their value.
Helping someone selflessly is one thing but being selfless does not mean forgetting one’s own needs. You must remember that God has given every human being a body and mind, it is the responsibility of every individual human being to take care of its needs and happiness. You did not help someone so that he or she would help you in return or respect you. Or think about you. Your heart and mind believe it is right to do so, so you did it, then if later your work is not recognized or respected, then you should not be sad. If so, then it shows that you are also having some desire in return for those actions and this is the reason for your suffering in this place.
Once a disciple started asking his Guru, Guruji, even if I do good work, people criticize me and even if I do bad work, they criticize me. You tell me how to live in this world. The Guru asked whether I should tell by saying or by doing. So the disciple said, try it this time and tell me. The Guru had three identical girls. Gave one of them to the girl disciple and said, hook a hook into it and catch a fish. The disciple said okay and he walked towards the river. Guruji was also walking with him. As soon as the disciple threw the wood into the river, a fish got stuck in it. The Guru said, apply force and take it out. The disciple used his full strength. The wood broke due to too much pulling. Guruji gave him another stick and asked him to use less force this time. The disciple said okay. He threw the wood into the river and the fish got stuck again, but this time the disciple did not use any strength at all. Due to this the wood went into the water and the fish took hold of the wood. The Guru said now I will give you the third stick. This time neither do you use force nor too much. This time the disciple used as much force as the fish. And this time the fish was caught. Then the Guru said, did you understand anything from this technique? Then the disciple said, no Guruji, I did not understand anything. Then the Guru said to the disciple, the way of this world is exactly like this. If you want to ask for good in return for good, this world will never give it to you. You don’t need to force yourself too much with this world. You just keep doing good to everyone in your own way, with your body, mind, words. Then don’t expect what you get in return. Good deeds yield good results.
You need to understand that by doing something for someone while being capable, even if you make a sacrifice for someone with your conscience, that too you have fulfilled your moral duty and human dharma, it is possible that you will be rewarded in the future. You may get rewarded for it, but you should not expect any good results from it. Remember the saying of Geeta, do your work, do not worry about the results. This is the path that will not let you be sad in any situation.
