The place that trees have in Hinduism is not found in any other religion. In Hindu religion, Gods and Goddesses are considered to reside in trees. This is the reason why trees are worshipped. We all know that the scientific reason for planting trees is to keep the environment pure. But in Hindu religion there are some trees which are worshiped like God. Let us know which trees are worthy of worship and why?
Banana tree :
The banana tree is considered very sacred and is used in many religious ceremonies. Bananas are offered to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Prasad is distributed in banana leaves. It is believed that worshiping the banana tree is good for prosperity. The leaf, fruit and flower of the banana tree are all used. A very tasty vegetable is made from the banana flower. Banana is easily available in every season. It is a very nutritious and tasty fruit. Banana is interesting, sweet, powerful, increases semen and flesh and is beneficial in eye problems. Regular consumption of ripe banana strengthens the body. It destroys the disorders of phlegm, dysentery, gas and leucorrhoea.
Ficus religiosa tree,
Ficus tree has great importance in Hindu religion. In Ayurveda, the medicinal properties of Peepal are described for use in many incurable diseases. Due to its medicinal properties, Peepal tree has been given the name of ‘Kalpavriksha’. Thirty-three crore deities reside in the Peepal tree from root to leaves and hence the ficus tree is considered to be worshiped in the morning. By offering water to the said tree, diseases and sorrows are eradicated. Every element of ficus like bark, leaves, fruits, seeds, milk, coir and copal and lac are useful in the treatment of all types of diseases. In Hindu religious texts, ficus is considered equivalent to nectar. Due to the maximum release of oxygen, it is called the storehouse of vital air. It has immense capacity to generate maximum oxygen and assimilate toxic gases. With this environment, Vata, Pitta and Kapha are mitigated and the balance of all three conditions is also maintained. This also provides mental peace. Ficus worship has been prevalent since ancient times. There is also many archaeological evidence of this. On Saturday’s Amavasya, worshiping the ficus tree and circumambulating it seven times by lighting a mustard oil lamp with black sesame seeds and offering it as shade, one gets relief from the pain of Saturn.
Banyan tree:
Banyan is called banyan tree. In Hinduism, a festival called Vat Savatri is completely dedicated to Vat. After Peepal, Banyan has the most importance. While Lord Vishnu resides in Peepal, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are considered to reside in Banyan. However, the banyan tree has actually been called Shiva. To see a banyan tree is to see Lord Shiva. According to Hindu religion, five banyan trees have great importance. It is said about Akshayavat, Panchavat, Vanshivat, Gayavat and Siddhavat that no one knows about their antiquity. The above five Vats have been kept in the category of sacred Vats in the world. There is Akshayavat in Prayag, Panchavat in Nashik, Vanshivat in Vrindavan, Gayavat in Gaya and the holy Siddhavat in Ujjain.
Mango tree :
In Hindu religion, whenever any auspicious function is performed, the atmosphere of the Manglik festival is made religious and pure by placing a garland of mango leaves on the doors and walls of the house or place of worship. Mangoes are often used for decoration in religious pandals and pavilions. Mango leaves are used. It is considered very important to have mango wood in Havan. There are thousands of varieties of mango tree and the fruit it produces is famous all over the world. Mango juice cures many types of diseases.
Shami tree,
The leaves of Shami tree are offered to Lord Shiva. It is believed that offering Shami leaves to Lord Shiva provides relief from bad dreams. According to Varahamihir, the year in which the Shami tree flourishes more, a situation of drought is created. One meaning of worshiping it on the day of Vijayadashami is that this tree gives advance indication of the coming agricultural disaster, due to which the farmer can make more effort than before to get rid of the coming disaster. Shami tree, on the Shami tree Lighting a mustard oil lamp every Saturday averts all kinds of troubles in your house. You attain happiness and prosperity and all evil forces are destroyed.
Bilva tree:
Bilva is a tree found in many parts of the world. In India, this tree is highly respected like Peepal, Neem, Mango, Parijat and Palash etc. trees. In Hindu religion, Bilva tree is an important part of the worship of Lord Shiva. Both the fruits and leaves of Bilva tree are very useful. Bilva leaves are very dear to Lord Shiva. Bilva fruit is considered very useful for the stomach. It is consumed extensively in India. Due to its religious importance, it is planted near temples. The nature of the Bilva tree is very cool. To avoid the heat of summer, the juice of its fruit is very beneficial. This sherbet is best to get relief from problems like indigestion, poor eyesight, stomach worms and heat stroke. Chemicals like tannin, iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium are found in the leaves of Bilva, which are full of medicinal properties. Regarding the origin of the Bilva tree, it is said in ‘Skandapuran’ that once Goddess Parvati wiped the sweat from her forehead and threw it, Some drops of which fell on Mandar Mountain, from which the Bel tree was born. Girija resides in the roots of this tree, Maheshwari in the trunk, Dakshaayani in the branches, Parvati in the leaves, Gauri in the flowers and Katyayani in the fruits. It is said that the thorns of the Bel tree also contain many powers. It is believed that Goddess Mahalakshmi also resides in the Bel tree. Those who worship Shiva-Parvati by offering Belpatra, they get the blessings of both Mahadev and Goddess Parvati.
Ashoka tree:
Ashoka tree is considered very sacred and beneficial in Hindu religion. The literal meaning of Ashoka is – no sorrow of any kind. Ashoka leaves are used in auspicious and religious activities. It is believed that by planting the Ashoka tree in the house or wearing its root at an auspicious time, a person gets freedom from all sorrows. Ashoka tree destroys the disorders like gas, bile etc., indigestion, thirst, burning sensation, worms, inflammation, poison and blood disorders. These are chemicals and stimulants. Skin diseases are also cured by its use. Ashoka tree should be planted in the north direction of the house so that positive energy continues to circulate in the house. Having Ashoka tree in the house ensures happiness, peace and prosperity and prevents untimely death.
Coconut Tree:
In Hindu religion, no auspicious work can be accomplished without coconut. The coconut tree lives for about 80 years. The tree bears fruits after 15 years.
During the puja, the Kalash is filled with water and a coconut is placed on top of it. This is a symbol of Mars. Coconut is offered to God. Every part of the tree is used for some purpose or the other. These parts have proved very useful for the farmers. House floors, furniture etc. are made from it. Fans, baskets, mats etc. are made from leaves. Many items like rope, mats, brushes, nets, bags etc. are made from its coir. It is also filled in mattresses. Coconut oil is most beneficial. Coconut water contains high amount of potassium.Coconut pulp is used for the treatment of nerve problems, weakness, memory loss and pulmonary affections. It also removes skin related and intestinal problems. People suffering from asthma are also advised to drink coconut water.
Pomegranate tree :
While the pomegranate tree produces positive energy, this tree also has many medicinal properties. Pomegranate is counted among the five fruits during puja. Pomegranate tree is also very beautiful which can be planted to beautify the garden. Its buds, flowers and fruits are no less beautiful. Using pomegranate increases the blood count. This makes the skin beautiful and smooth. Drinking pomegranate juice or eating pomegranate daily improves the complexion of the skin. Pomegranate is beneficial in diseases like indigestion, diarrhea, dysentery, asthma, cough, bad breath etc. By consuming it, wrinkles or looseness of flesh in the body gets eliminated. It is believed that planting a pomegranate tree in the house is very auspicious.
Neem tree:
It is considered a miraculous tree. Neem, which is a generally available tree, is easily available. Due to its medicinal properties, this tree is proving to be very useful in traditional treatment. Neem tree has medicinal as well as religious importance. This tree is worshipped. It is said that the smoke of neem leaves protects from evil and ghost spirits. In Misreals etc. the body is washed with neem water. Many types of soaps and face wash oils are made from Neem. Neem is very good for our skin. Neem is of two types: sweet and bitter. Tita Neem is used in making medicines. Sweet neem is used in many dishes. Eating this also removes blood deficiency in the body.
Amla tree,
By worshiping Amla, one gets the blessing of health and happiness and prosperity. It is believed that Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva reside in the Amla tree. The more we describe the properties of Amla, the less it is. Amla is rich in Vitamin C. Many types of medicines are also made from Amla. Amla pickle, chutney, murabba are very popular in all forms. The oil made from it is beneficial for hair. Amla Navami is a festival in Hindu religion. Amla is especially worshiped on that day.
Doob grass,
It is said that Doob grass is most loved by Ganpati Bappa. By applying turmeric and offering grass to Lord Ganesha every Wednesday, all kinds of obstacles in your work are removed and you get auspicious benefits. If Doob juice is given to cancer patients, the spread of the disease can be prevented to some extent.
kadamba tree
Mother Lakshmi is believed to reside on the Kadamba tree. It is believed that by performing Yagya sitting under the Kadamba tree, one gets the special blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and brings happiness in the family.
Talking about trees and plants, their qualities cannot be described. Man cannot survive without nature. Every plant is a medicine in itself. Our ancestors have been curing their diseases with these. Therefore they have great importance in Hindu religion.
