Gangaur Mata is worshiped as the incarnation of Parvati and Ishtar ji is worshiped as the incarnation of Lord Shankar. Gangaur festival is a major festival of Rajasthan. This festival is celebrated as a celebration of the marriage and love of Gauri and Shiva. On Gangaur, married women worship Goddess Parvati and Shiva for the long life of their husbands and unmarried girls to get a good husband. According to the legend, once Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati came to visit the earth. That day was the third day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. As soon as the news of Shiva Parvati’s arrival was heard, some poor women of the village reached to serve her with water, flowers and fruits. Goddess Parvati and Lord Shankar were pleased with the service and devotion of those poor women. At that time, Goddess Parvati took water in her hands and sprinkled the nectar of marriage on those poor women and said that the marriage of all of you will remain eternal. After that, women from some affluent and rich families came with a group full of dishes to serve Shiva-Shakti. Lord Shiva said to the mother, you have distributed all the nectar among the poor women, now what will you give to them? Goddess Parvati said that I will bless them with the same good fortune as me. After this, Goddess Parvati cut one of her fingers and sprinkled a few drops of her blood on the rich women. Under this, Mother Parvati had distributed Suhaag among rich and poor women. After this, Goddess Parvati prepared a Shivlinga from a pile of sand on the river bank and worshiped it. Mahadev appeared from the Shivlinga and told Mother Parvati that on the day of Chaitra Shukla Tritiya, whichever married woman worships Shiva and Gauri, she will get eternal marriage. . Their husbands will have a long life and virgin women will get a suitable life partner. Since then Gangaur puja started being performed.
Married women keep the fast of Gangaur Mata for the long life of their husband, while unmarried girls observe this fast in the desire of getting a husband like Lord Shiva. It is believed that in old times, Mother Parvati had fasted to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Had to do a lot of penance and fasting for this. According to this, Mother Parvati had won the love of Lord Shiva with her devotion and love and after that Mother Parvati came to her house during Gangaur to bless the marital bliss of her devotees and worshiped Gangaur here for 18 days. After this There was a big celebration on the day of farewell and Lord Shiva took him back with himself.
