How and why are statues revered?

Pran Pratishtha is the work which turns an inanimate statue into a living one. Here Sajeev means the idol becomes capable of accepting prayers and granting boons. For this the idol has to go through various stages. The ceremony involves various rituals taken from the Vedas and Puranas, each with its own significance.

To prepare the idol for Prana Pratistha, several adhivas are conducted, in which the idol is dipped in various materials. For a night, the idol is kept in water, which is called Jaladhivas. It is then dipped in grains, which is called Dhanyadhivas. When a sculpture is made, it is subjected to various injuries by the craftsman’s tools. These settlements are meant to heal all such injuries. This process also serves another purpose: if there is a flaw in the statue, or if the stone is not of good quality, it will be revealed when it is dipped in different materials.
After this, the idol is given a ritual bath and anointed with various materials. Such as Panchamrit, water containing the essence of various fragrant flowers and leaves, water poured on the horns of a cow and sugarcane juice, perfume, Ganga water etc. Sanatan through the abodes with the specific energies of the Panchamahabhutas fire, water, air, sky, earth. By consecrating the idol with culture, the idol ceases to be a stone. After the idol has sufficiently recovered from the injuries sustained during its construction and is given a ritual bath, it is time to awaken it. Several mantras are chanted, asking various deities to come and animate various parts of it , such as the Sun, eyes, air, ears, moon, mind, etc.
Then comes the final stage, the opening of the statue’s eyes. The ceremony involves applying Anjana around the eyes of the deity, with a gold needle. This process is done from behind, because it is believed that if someone does not look into the eyes of the God as soon as they open, the eyes of the idol are very bright at this time.

How many types of adhivaas are there?

The adhivaas helps in imbuing the idol with powers. Due to this, the idol of the idol appears attractive, energetic and has a special aura. There are many adhivas in the Pran-Pratishtha Mahotsav, minimum three adhivas are practiced. Pushpadhivas, Madhyadhivas and Shayadhivas.
All habitations have specific effects. And all objects have their own specific effects. Through various resolutions, the influence of the idol is taken by consecrating it with bath of different medicines and aromatic liquids, grains, fruits, flowers, milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar, etc. Let us know what is the result of which adhivaas.

(1) Annadhivas (food), by observing food grains, there is never a shortage of food in the country. The earth remains full of agriculture, so that the order of the world can progress. (2) Phaladhivas, the fruits of karma are established in the creation, that is, those who will offer, We will get its copy.
(3) Pushpadhivas, keeping the idol in a flower gives prestige, wealth, prosperity, progress and youth in life.
(3) On Dudha Divas, pouring the idol with milk brings animal wealth and financial benefits to the family or nation.
(4) Dadhivas, keeping the idol immersed in curd leads to progress in the medical field in the country.
(5) Ghritadhivas, by anointing the idol with ghee, nourishes the entire culture and paves the way for progress in the country.
(6) Honeydew, Dwelling with honey benefits natural balance, health and prosperity in the country. Dwelling with sugar and honey leads to peace, dedication and tolerance.
(7) Ratnadhivas, the residence of the idol with gems leads to economic progress, progress etc. (8) Jaladhivas, the idol which is to be consecrated has to reside or keep it in water for a stipulated time as per the classical method. . All the gods reside in water. The idol is kept in water to attain coolness. Keeping it in water means that all the deities situated in the water should purify the idol so that the respective deity can be invoked in it.
Keeping the idol in water removes the burning sensation caused by using fire. By this process the idol maintains peace. (9) Gandhadhivas, in this the idol is coated with fragrant liquids. By doing this one achieves success in every field. (10) Saffron Abode, in this the idol is worshiped with water mixed with saffron, which is meant to increase dignity.

But it is written in the scriptures that Shaligram found in Gandaki river and Shivling Narmadeshwar found in Narmada river do not need Pran Pratishtha, because they have divinity within themselves. According to the classical belief, after seeing the idol, the devotee is duly consecrated. Has the ability to overcome obstacles in household life. The darshan of the idol consecrated to life is considered beneficial.
