Why are the 12 months of Hindus special?

Every day of the year is a festival in Hinduism. Sometimes it is a festival of some caste and sometimes of another caste. According to the Hindu calendar, every month has its own specialty and every month is dedicated to the special worship of some deity or the other. Even in Hindu religion Every day is also dedicated to God. Like Sunday is of Sun God, Monday is of Shiva, Tuesday is of Hanuman ji, Wednesday is of Ganesha, Thursday is of Vishnu, Friday is of Goddess, Saturday is of Shani Dev. Such religion will not be found in any country in the world.

Chaitra month-

According to the Hindu calendar, the new year begins with the month of Chaitra. Therefore it is considered the first month of the new year. Chaitra month has special significance in Hindu religion. Because Lord Brahma started the creation of the universe with the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of this month. Performing religious rituals and worship during Chaitra month is considered auspicious. The Hindu year begins in this month. Chaitra Navratri starts from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of this month. According to the scriptures, the full moon of this month occurs in Chitra Nakshatra, due to which this month is named Chaitra. According to Hindu calendar, this month includes fasts of Hanuman Jayanti, Chaitra Navratri, Ram Navami, Papmochani Ekadashi, Sheetala Ashtami, Gudi Padwa, Gangaor, Hanuman Jayanti.

Vaishakh month-

Due to the relation of Vishakha Nakshatra in this month, the name of this month is called Vaishakh. This month includes the fasts of Parshuram Jayanti, Akshaya Tritiya, Mohini Ekadashi, Vaisakhi, Guru Purnima, which is very important. According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Vaishakh begins fifteen days after the beginning of creation. This holy month inspires a person to orient himself from the individual to the collective. In the Puranas, this month has been called the month of chanting, penance and charity. As soon as the month of Vaishakh begins, an atmosphere of heat is created, hence from the religious point of view, Lord Varun has special significance in this month.

Jyeshtha month-

It is more hot in this month. Due to the seniority of Sun God, this month is called Jyeshtha month. Water has more importance in this month. It is believed that the festival of Vat Savitri, Ganga Dussehra, Nirjala Ekadashi falls in this month. Due to extreme heat in this month, there is a great tradition of giving water or sherbet to the thirsty people.

Ashadh month-

This month is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The most important festivals in this month are Gupt Navratri, Devshayani Ekadashi, Jagannath Puri Yatra. It is believed that bathing, donation and worship have great importance in this month. The fourth month of the Hindu calendar is the month of Ashadh. This is the month of sandhi period, rainy season starts from this month. The incidence of diseases is highest in this month. From this month, a little moisture starts coming in the atmosphere. This month is also called the month of wish fulfillment. According to Hindu religion, no marriage takes place from Devshayani Ekadashi till Tulsi Vivah.

Sawan month-

Lord Shiva is worshiped throughout this month. People keep fast on every Monday of this month, because every Monday and Tuesday in this month have special significance. Festivals held in the month of Sawan are Nag Panchami, Teej, Raksha Bandhan etc.

Bhadra month-

According to the scriptures, on the full moon day of this month, the constellation Purva or Uttarabhadrapada is formed in the sky, due to which this month is known as Bhadrapada. Worshiping Shri Krishna and Ganapati in this month brings happiness and wealth. In Hindu religious traditions, the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna, who gives the message of karma, is celebrated on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of this month, while the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha is celebrated as the first day of worship. It is the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ganesh. In this way, this month also brings the message of achieving success in life through balance and sadhana of deeds and intellect.

Ashwin month-


Many big festivals like Vijayadashami, Sharad Purnima, Jeevitputrika Vrat, Sharadiya Navratri, Onam come in this month. Pitru Paksha also comes in this month, in which Shraddha is performed for the peace of the ancestors.



Kartik month-

According to the scriptures, the month of Kartik is considered very inauspicious for worshiping the gods. Taking bath in the month of Kartik has special significance. There are many festivals in the month of Kartik like Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Devuthani Ekadashi, Tulsi Vivah, Dev Diwali, Karva Chauth, Govardhan Puja, Gau Ashtami, Chhath Puja,

Margashirsha month-

It is believed that worshiping Shri Krishna in this month brings success in every work. After the end of Kartik Purnima, the month of Margashirsha begins. It is also called the month of Aghan. According to the Hindu calendar, it is the ninth month of the calendar. Actually, this entire month is good for worship, fasting, festivals and auspicious works. But especially the month of Aghan is fruitful for the worship of Lord Ram and Shri Krishna. Because many festivals related to Lord Ram and Shri Krishna occur in this month. Therefore this month has special religious significance. The importance of Margashirsha month has also been mentioned in the Puranas. The marriage of Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita took place in this month.



Paush month-

The month of Paush is the tenth month in Vikram Samvat. The names of Indian months are based on constellations. In fact, the name of the month is kept on the basis of the constellation in which the Moon is present on its full moon day. On the full moon day of the month of Pausha, the Moon remains in Pushya Nakshatra, hence this month is called the month of Pausha. The entire month of Pausha is considered very important from the religious point of view, but there are some major fasts and festivals. Paush Amavasya and Paush Purnima are also considered very important. Along with fasting, special worship is also done on this day to get relief from Pitradosh and Kaalsarp Dosh. It is said that worshiping the Sun in this month is very beneficial.



Magha month-

In this month a fair is organized on the banks of holy rivers. From this month, when the Sun starts turning Uttarayan, the cold gradually starts reducing. In this month, Shishir season starts after Hemant season. Spring season starts from Shukla Panchami of Magh month. Due to Magha Nakshatra, this month was named Magha month. Some important fasts in the month of Magh are Shattila Ekadashi, Til Chaturthi, Rathasaptami, Bhishmashtami, Mauni Amasya, etc. Kalpvas has special significance in the month of Magh. During the Magh period, residence on the banks of Sangam is called ‘Kalpvas’. Wherever there is water in the month of Magh, it is believed that it becomes as pure as the water of Ganga. Whoever takes bath in Ganga in the month of Magh receives the blessings of Lakshmipati Lord Vishnu. Taking bath in the month of Magh brings happiness, good fortune, wealth, children and salvation.

Phalgun month-

The month of Phagun is very dear to Lord Krishna. In this month, the beauty of Mathura Vrindavan is worth seeing. The festivals of Mahashivratri, Holi, Phulaira Dooj are celebrated in this month.

Mal Maas,

In religion, Malmas i.e. Adhikamas is considered very special. This special month comes once every 3 years. Special importance is also given to worship in this month. Malmas or Adhik Maas is given very special importance in Hindu religion. This is also known as Purushottam month.
Just as there is a leap year in the English calendar, in the same way there is a leap year in the Hindi calendar which is called Malmas or Adhikamas. Lord Vishnu is worshiped during Malmas. It is said that by worshiping Lord Vishnu in Adhik Maas, all the wishes are fulfilled.
During this time, along with Lord Vishnu, Lord Satyanarayan is also worshipped. Because, it is said that worshiping and worshiping God in Malmas is very fruitful.
However, no auspicious or auspicious work like marriage, mundan and house warming etc. is done during Malmas.
According to the scriptures, donating in Adhik Maas is also auspicious.
It is said that donating a lamp during Purushottam month brings blessings of all the Gods and Goddesses.
